Image based egold virus a hoax
June 28, 2006
An email allegedly from egold is circulating around advising its members to secure their respective egold accounts. This notice as advised is in response to a new egold virus attached to a JPEG image file.
To secure members accounts, the notice requires members to download egold’s security upgrade using the Internet Explorer browser and follow the set of instructions.
What is suspicious about the notice is that it failed to explicitly identify the image file hosting the virus. Moreover, the installation of the egold security upgrade tends to favor the Internet Explorer browser over the much secured Firefox.
